Word reaches us of an interesting creative challenge being run alonside the European Year of Cultural Dialogue (with thanks to the e-newsletter of Berlin’s Haus Der Kulturen Der Welt - we’re not going to patronise you by translating that). Needless to say, more info below or just go straight to the horse’s mouth at http://www.hundertsekunden.de/
Quoting from the House of World Culture’s newsletter:
“Nice to Meet you - Cultural Collisions in 100 Sec
“Multi-media competition
“05.05.2008 - 30.09.2008
“Anyone who wishes to participate can now submit their stories for the multimedia competition: Nice to Meet you – Cultural Collisions in 100 Sec”.
“We are looking for creative ideas that sketch, characterise or satirize our multicultural everyday lives. No matter whether the entries are (o-tone) collages, filmed stories, sound recordings, comedies, short crime thrillers or music clips – all genres are allowed, providing they are not longer than 100 seconds. Please submit your entries either as uploads or by post.
The closing date for entries is 30 September 2008.
“The competition is being run by radiomultikulti from the Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg broadcasting company and by the House of World Cultures in co-operation with rbb television and the European Year of Cultural Dialogue.
“Although this dialogue has been an integral part of everyday life in Berlin for some time now, it is not something that people living in here take for granted. Is intercultural dialogue really nothing more than an expression coined by politicians – politically correct but basically empty talk? Or do we encounter it day in day out, with every step we take: as a conflict, as a misunderstanding, or as a revelation or laughter?
“A jury made up of prominent personalities will select the most interesting, moving, exciting and funniest entries to the multimedia competition Nice to Meet you – Cultural Collisions in 100 Sec.
The jury chairman is Swiss director, actor and screenwriter Dani Levy. Other members of the jury are the German-Turkish woman director and author Buket Alakus, Russian journalist and author Vladimir Kaminer, the German-Turkish pop singer Muhabbet, as well as Heinrich Popow (Germany’s hope of a medal at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008) and Johnny Strange (Culcha Candela).
“The prize award ceremony will be taking place on 18 November 2008 at the House of World Cultures.
“The project is held under the patronage of the Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, and the minister-president of Brandenburg, Matthias Platzeck”.
