Two shameless plugs now. First off, Patrick Keiller’s exhibition, The City of the Future, opening today (23 Nov) at BFI Southbank. Also the debut album of Nottingham-ster, Ruth Notman.
Regular visitors to this site will know the film, Nottingham Panorama, devised by Patrick for NOW earlier this year (if, not, shame on you and scroll down the news items and/or go to thje Programme Archive to get up to speed - really!). Nice article in yesterday’s (22 Nov) Independent, with the 2003 image of Nottingham’s Carrington Street which in part led to the Nottingham Panorama film. Attached for you here. The exhibition runs 23 November 2007 - 3 February 2008, more info at http://www.bfi.org.uk/whatson. Highly recommended, if not indeed essential.
Young Ms. Notman is a rising star of the British folk scene, described by the Guardian (23 Nov) as having “a thoughtful, brooding quality that echoes Sandy Denny”. We don’t often delve into folk here, but we recommend Ruth’s album, Threads, because some of our colleagues have helped nuture her career, putting her on at a number of key events in Nottingham including the very launch of Nottingham’s Old Market Square for which Nottingham Panorama was commissioned.
See, it all links up one way or another.
