In 2006 Lone Twin will be nine years old and we’re planning a birthday celebration – not quite ten but no longer eight. Nine Years brings together Lone Twin’s entire body of performance works with their trademark curious and quirky humour and mesmeric freewheeling.
Nine Years, like some irreverent slide show lecture by a not-quite-celebrity explorer, sets out to represent and authenticate the Lone Twin’s unique journey, and Gregg and Gary’s findings from the expedition so far. As they put it, this is a show “for those (who for safety’s sake) didn’t take part” in the voyage to date.
Formed in 1997 by Gregg Whelan and Gary Winters, Lone Twin has become one of the United Kingdom’s leading performance makers, showing regularly across the world to popular and critical acclaim.
“Wonderful, funny, moving and unassuming, Lone Twin are innocents abroad.” The Stranger, Seattle, USA.
“Deceptively artless and freewheeling, absorbing and amusing it’s easy to forget that Lone Twin are performers.” The Irish Times.
“They come from England. Bewildered, hopeful, dogged – I expect they could read the phone book and be funny, but their humour has the special grace of seeming accidental.” Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, USA.
Lone Twin has created an internationally celebrated body of work with regular showings across Europe, North America and Australia. The company is committed to creating entertaining and hopeful performances that remain rewarding to a wide audience. Lone Twin’s activities range from context-specific works lasting many days to gallery, studio and stage performances.
