The full English breakfast is given a Citizenship Test. Mem Morrison returns to his roots for a performance in a traditional café in Nottingham city centre, to the cultural meanings of food. Growing up above a café (until his parents moved on to run a Doner Kebab shop), for Mem food became the source of great confusion and anxiety, long before the complexities of fusion cooking.

Leftovers explores how cultural differences are expressed through food, and how an established English café culture has been assimilated and imperceptibly changed by generations of Turkish Cypriot families.

Held in a real café, audience members can arrive early to mingle with staff and regulars, and enjoy a full English breakfast (or alternative option) before settling down to a very special performance concocted and served just for them. Go on, tuck in!

“Mem Morrison radiates talent as a writer and performer. Witty and intriguing … proof that live theatre is still alive.” Independent on Sunday.

Clever guy this Mem. If the words performance, alternative or visual arts have previously left you leaping for the taxi, prepare to leap the other way”. Attitude Magazine

Mem Morrison is a performance artist who has been making his own, highly personal, work since 1995. He is interested in exploring performance as a healing process and as a way of finding a voice. With a strong emphasis on design and colour, the work often draws upon personal history and environment to evoke the complexities of acknowledging and accepting cultural difference.
