Nottingham City Centre will be whooping it up en masse for Dwelling X, a new major public structure created by international artist Lucy Orta, co-commissioned by NOW and Angel Row Gallery.
Dwelling X forms part of a series of temporary public structures: mobile habitats that result from collaborative workshops conducted with local artists and resident groups in the community. The publics integral involvement throughout the creative process gives a whole new meaning to public art.
Lucy Orta examines the social bonds within communities and the relationship between inividuals and their environments. With Social and political engagement at it's core, Lucy's work ranges from sculptures resembling transformable shelters for emergency situations, to public performance, to interventions and exhibitions.
There will be education staff on hand at Dwelling X to talk about the piece with audience members, and there will also be a sign language interpreter available on the 15th and 20th October. Please see event times for details.
