My Bestwood

Related event: Nottingham Panorama

Nottingham Panorama, a film by Patrick Keiller and Stephen Connolly commissioned by NOW for the relaunch of the city’s Old Market Square, provided a brilliant splicing of Nottingham’s history (courtesy of the Mitchell and Kenyon archive) and its present. This inspired us to work with colleagues at Nottingham Castle Museum to develop a pilot for intergenerational outreach work, bringing together the older and younger generations. Work is already underway in the Bestwood area of the city.

My Bestwood is financed by NOW and the Museums Outreach but is being delivered by Nottingham City Council Arts Development and a Museum project worker in association with Bestwood Directions. It asks the questions:

What are your memories of Bestwood? Do you remember Bestwood in the 40s, 60s, 80s? How long have you lived here? What’s your street?
Where did you go to school, work and play? Have you got a favourite story about your neighbourhood?

The sessions, taking place during August and September 2007, offer regular Wednesday afternoon drop in opportunities for visitors to share their memories and add them to a creative “memory box” for Bestwood.

Artist Rosney Haywood fecilitates an exploration of personal and shared stories.
